Day 1 — Arrival in Addis Ababa

Arrive in Addis Ababa and meet your guide at the airport. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a relaxed city introduction with views from Entoto, a short museum visit, and time to settle in before the northern route begins.

Day 2 — Addis Ababa to Bahir Dar

Fly to Bahir Dar in the morning. Visit the Blue Nile Falls area, then continue with an afternoon boat trip on Lake Tana to explore historic monasteries and enjoy the lakeside scenery. This combines the same key Bahir Dar experiences featured on the reference itineraries.

Day 3 — Bahir Dar to Gondar

Travel to Gondar and spend the day exploring the royal enclosure, historic churches, and the old imperial atmosphere that made the city one of the most important centers on Ethiopia’s historical route. Gondar is a major stop on both operators’ northern-route content.

Day 4 — Gondar to Lalibela

Take a morning flight to Lalibela. Start with the first group of rock-hewn churches, including the monumental Bet Medhane Alem, and continue to the iconic Bet Giyorgis before sunset. This day is inspired by the church sequence shown on Abyssinian’s 7-day itinerary.

Day 5 — Lalibela Deep Exploration

Continue discovering Lalibela with a fuller cultural day that goes beyond a quick stop. Visit additional churches, walk through connecting passages, and spend time learning about the spiritual and architectural significance of the site. Lalibela is one of the core highlights emphasized by both sites’ historical tour pages.

Day 6 — Lalibela to Axum

Fly to Axum and explore the remains of one of Ethiopia’s greatest ancient kingdoms. Visit the stelae park, St. Mary’s Church, and other heritage landmarks associated with Axum’s royal and religious legacy. These Axum highlights are specifically named on the reference itineraries.

Day 7 — Axum to Addis Ababa and Departure

Return to Addis Ababa. If your schedule allows, visit the National Museum, the Ethnological Museum, or Merkato before your international departure. These Addis stops appear on the reference itineraries as final-day city experiences.
